Canine Commandos November 30, 2011

We had another successful trip to the Cenral Brevard Humane Society on Wednesday!  There were only a few dogs to work with outside!  Since last Wednesday, one of the sweetest dogs ever was adopted!  We wish Popeye a wonderful new life!
Happy Holidays!

2nd Grade: How do we show what we know?

In preparation for adding artifacts to our portfolios, the question above was posed. The discussion that followed was based on the students' answers seen below. How do you show what you know? I find it interesting, none of the students responded with "tests". Hmm...

Peace Day Video

End of First Quarter!

Can you believe we have completed the first quarter for the school year? It has flown by!

This first quarter, our Transdiciplinary Theme was Who We Are; an inquiry into the nature of the self; believes and values; personal, physical, mental, social and spiritual health; human relationships including families, friends, communities, and cultures; rights and responsibilities; what it means to be human.

Central Idea: Self awareness informs peoples' choices in life.

Grade level titles:
2nd: Me Me Me
3rd: I am a writer
4th: My Own World
5th: Action!
6th: To Be or Not to Be

In this post, you will find the grade level reporting from GSP. Each time we meet, one student is the selected to be the reporter. He/She decides which event to write about and solicits a quote from a peer. The perspectives that follow are sure to be found interesting! Enjoy!

4th: Sydney-Sept. 8: Write your own quote was something we did today. "I love quotes, so that was fun," I said. Grace said, "It made me feel special, it's a fun way to express myself! You need to write real needs, not just what you want to be needs." (In reference to establishing needs and wants of a civilization.)

4th: Mallory-Sept. 22: Today we discussed The Girl Who Owned a City and I broke my earls, it was so loud! "It was too noisy to listen to my own thoughts," said Sydney of Mrs. Falcone's class. "I think I might be deaf now!"

During a writing activity in collaboration today, the 6th grade students wrote original stories based on individual sentences. When blended together to create these stories, I observed conversations. This Wordle emerged:

Much Appreciated

Today I find in my room two beautiful bouquets of flowers sent by the many wonderful families that we have here. An amazing aroma fills the room now...but what makes me feel the most appreciated are the students' comments. Their wonderings and discoveries, creative ideas and connections...sustain this career of teaching!

Gabriel writing in his journal during lunch
"Hey...three of us like to fish and went fishing this weekend!" Jake, Logan and Bailey
"Ms. Haddock...I found that book you use for Improv on Amazon and it should come this weekend!!" Emily

What a wonderful job it is to work with young minds and to uncover new thoughts! Thank you to everyone who I have been privileged enough to work with!
