2nd Grade Mind Challenges Day
Second grade participated in their second mind challenges day. This is a day where students spend their GSP time researching, creating, doing, or playing. Thank you to Sam who donated Stratego to our play area! Students were engaged in the creation of kites, Lego structures, and fuse bead creatures. Some students tried out Glogster and Wordle, two online applications that allow the user to create a poster or word cloud. What a wonderful day of imagination and sharing!

Canine Commando Trip
We had a blast during our first Canine Commandos trip to the Central Brevard Humane Society! Thank you to Virgina Hamilton from Tropical Elementary who created this wonderful opportunity for our Brevard GSP students!
We spent the first hour training 7 dogs outside and then spent the next hour clicker training all of the dogs in their runs. We had 31 students and 7 adults who made this experience possible! Check out the pictures below. Perhaps you can see your dog that you trained!
Looking forward to our next trip out there!

Leadership and Improv
As we continue with our theme of Who We Are: Lead On Me, our sixth graders created a Wordle with all of the characteristics of a leader! Also, in an effort to begin our unit on improvisation, we practiced a game called freeze. The students had to emulate the famous painting of George Washington crossing the Delaware! Can you see it?

2nd Grade Moves
What a joy to have second grade!! It's wonderful to be with some of my former students from Kindergarten, to see their growth and excitement! Oh to be young again...we listen to Pandora Radio while doing different activities. While creating personal name tags that represent themselves and listening to some Black Eyed Peas, hips were moving, the latest dance moves were practiced and Ethan even tried out his break dancing! Moments of joy and acceptance in a learning environment-simply put, peace. Timely that the next song was "Where is the Love" by Black Eyed Peas. 2nd grade voices singing in harmony!

A New Year
We are off in a new year, only three weeks, and it feels like we never left. I write that not with frustration, but rather with joy that our school is filled with the kind of learning that continues from year to year. Our students have such a high expectation of themselves and such an eagerness to learn that we have all just picked up where we left off.
I heard this week that our GSP room was a "magical place". It seems that it is only magical when young minds are occupying the space! What a wonderful experience my profession lends...magic and wonder!
Welcome back!
